Our long national nightmare is over my friends. This weekend there will be the glorious game of college football on our television screens. Now its week 0 so you may have to do some searching to find these games given there are less than 10 games this weekend. Who knows where the road of conference realignment and the ever shifting nature of NIL will take this most American sport. I sure as hell don’t know, but what I do know is that these gambling books will be giving us odds on games till the bitter end. With that lets give the people what they want with some picks for week zero.

Navy vs Notre Dame (-21)

The first game of this 2023 college football season will start like last years did across the pond in beautiful Dublin Ireland. The Fighting Irish in Ireland aye? This Notre Dame team should be able to throw the ball much better last years team with the addition of Sam Hartman and in my opinion an improved wide receiver room. Navy will also struggle to move the ball with the rules about blocking below the waist especially against a team that is bigger, stronger, and faster than they are. Lay the points with the Irish in Ireland and count the green.

Hawaii vs Vanderbilt (-17.5) Game and (-10.5 FH)

Vanderbilt had to fly across the pacific ocean to play at Hawaii last year. The final score of that game was 63-10 Vandy. Vandy is better than they were last year. They should dominate this game in Nashville despite playing in an unfinished construction zone of a stadium. 

San Jose State vs USC (-18.5 FH)

I think we can all agree the Trojans are gonna score a lot of points this year. My point of concern with this USC squad this year is if they have improved their defense at all. The full game line at the moment of writing this is -30.5 I will not bet on the boys from Southern Cal with a line that big until I can see that defense in action especially the second unit which I expect to be in by the second half. For those reasons I will be taking USC to get in and get out in the first half against the spartans. 

UMass vs New Mexico State (-7)

UMass has sucked for at least three years. They suck even more on the road. Take the aggies at home and don’t think to much about it.

Hawaii vs Vanderbilt Over 56

I think Hawaii will put up some late scores to get us to this number. I mean hell you made the trip might as well let it all hang out maybe party on Broadway a bit score some points for the lads.

Vanderbilt TT Over 37.5

I expect Vandy to move the ball with ease against a bad rainbow warrior team.

Ohio vs SDSU Under 49

MAC teams are famous for performing poorly early in the year. Largely because most of them play Big 10 teams yes, but going all the way out to San Diego vs a team that is known for their defense doesn’t bode well for the bobcats. On the SDSU side they will never have my trust on the offensive side of the ball as long as Brady Hoke is their coach.
