Reed Olson’s Ramblin, Gamblin CFB PickEm Year 2 Week 0

Last years record 104-79-2 +25 Units.

55-41-2 Sides

49-38 Totals

Betting one unit a play last year would have netted you a +25 unit season if you tailed my picks last year. 185 Bets in total I gave out last year. Break that down over a 12 week regular season and champ week that averages out to around 14 plays a week. That is a fairly high bar in the gambling arena with 56.2 percent of my bets settling as a win. This year however the goal is to match or exceed that total. This all starts in week 0 with a very limited slate this weekend. My favorite sport is back so of course I will have some plays. I am also excited to announce that if you are reading this you are on my fancy new website ramblingamblinpickem.com instead of a shared google doc. Shoutout to Logan Davis @logandavis12951 on twitter for that assist. The great thing about that is it is a central location for all my blogs so you can go back and verify my claims of a 104-79-2 year last year. With all that housekeeping out of the way lets get to these picks.

Sides YTD 0-0

Nebraska (-13) vs Northwestern

The best 3-9 team of all time resided in Lincoln Nebraska last year. Scott Frost returns this year with a new OC Mark Whipple and a new QB Casey Thompson transferring in from Texas. This game will not be played in either Evanston or Lincoln. Instead it will be played Dublin Ireland. Northwestern was abysmal last year especially on the defensive side of the ball. I do think the wildcats will improve, but with talk of fifteen pukes coming from husker O-Lineman in practice under the new speed of offense Whipple brings in from Pitt I’ll take Nebraska and lay the number.

Wyoming vs Illinois (-11)

Bret Bielema and the Fighting Illini welcome the cowboys of Wyoming to Champaign for week 0. Another year under Bret for this team and the more years the more consistency the Illini will develop in beating the brakes off inferior opponents. The Illni last year were 2-0 when they were given multiple weeks to prepare for an opponent beating Nebraska week 0 and Penn State in the most comical football game I’ve ever seen. The Illini open the year winning in convincing fashion.

North Texas vs UTEP (+1)

The UTEP miners welcome the mean green to El Paso as one point dogs this saturday. They are estimating they will have a 45,000 person sellout. Factor in the revenge factor of losing by three to this squad last year and I like the miners to win one for the home team.

Nevada vs New Mexico St (+9)

Now Reed aren’t the Aggies of New Mexico St one of the worst teams in FBS over the last few seasons??? Yes. Yes they are. That being said this Nevada team lost everything over the offseason and the idea that they are favored by more than a touchdown is confusing. When I say the wolfpack lost everything I mean their coach left the school to take the job at conference rival Colorado St and took anyone with any talent with him. Now I am not saying the Aggies are world beaters. This is more of a I have no trust in Nevada at the moment play.

Vanderbilt (-8.5) vs Hawaii

Betting against the Rainbow Warriors on Island brings pain to my heart. A year after getting rid Todd Graham with him resigning after the state senate started grilling him over running a toxic program and most of the players transferring enter prodigal son Timmy Chang. This Hawaii team has long road to drive before returning to the team we love and it will help this year this will be like their only game on television. Plus how can Vanderbilt cash over 2.5 games if they don’t win this one.

Totals YTD 0-0

Nebraska vs Northwestern (Over 49.5)

I like the reports out of camp on how fast the Huskers want to play offense this year and last year the score of this game was 56-7. Now I do not think it will be quite that bad this year for the wildcats. Nebraska scores in the ballpark of 35-40 points in this and it goes over.

UCONN vs Utah State (Under 59.5)

UCONN will continue to be terrible and Utah State will show some regression from last years win in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl, man what a sentence. I do not see the huskies scoring more than three times and this one stays fairly boring.

Wyoming vs Illinois (Over 43.5)

The Illini will run for a lot of yards and scores and the Illini give up some late scores potentially to cash this over. The majority of the scoring will be from Syracuse transfer Tommy Devito handing the ball off  in this one.

Charlotte vs FAU (Over 58.5)

Games down in Boca can get out of hand quickly and I would rather always have the over even a few years after Lane Kiffin departed. FAU will always be able to recruit a certain level of athlete due to its location. Charlotte averaged 27 PPG while giving up 34 PPG that puts us at 61 PPG scored in their games last year this one should be fun give me the over.

Vanderbilt vs Hawaii (Under 53.5)

Hawaii will struggle to score at all this season. Vanderbilt will win this game something like 35-0.
