College football has returned. Our long national nightmare has ended. Games will be played today. These are all statements that elicit great love in my heart. Now much has changed since championship weekend of last year. Stanford and Cal are still conference foes, but now they play in the Atlantic Coast conference while being stationed mere miles from the Pacific ocean. 12 teams will be competing at the end of year playoff. We received the mana from heaven of a college football video game for the first time in a decade to hold us all over until this day. Yes college football has gotten quite topsy turvy in the last calendar year. I am very excited to share another football season with you all and I hope to match the winning ways of years past. With all that said let’s get into these picks!
Sides YTD 0-0-0
NDSU vs Colorado (-9.5) and Colorado TT Over 34.5
This game in my mind is about the buffs ability to throw the football. With Shaduer Sanders and this wide receiving core they should be able to spread the bison out and I have a lot of doubt that NDSU will be able to hold up in pass coverage. Colorados transfer class will be interesting to watch especially along the trenches. I have more faith in their defensive line than last year, because of additions through said portal. Deion Sanders with all the criticism of the offseason will be looking to run up the score in this one. Lets see some fireworks in Boulder tonight.
Western Carolina vs NC State (-32)
I think Western Carolina is to light in the ass to hold up physically against this Wolf pack team. This game is gonna be hot as hell and depth will certainly be one of the biggest factors it is a buy game after all. Grayson McCall also transferred in and he is a bottle of lighting for any college offense.
Temple vs Oklahoma (-42)
One of Oklahoma’s favorite traditions is beating the brakes off of bad teams to open the year. This year they get the temple owls who I predict will be one of the worst teams in the FBS not much to say past that. Sooners big.
Clemson vs Georgia (-13.5)
I have gone back and forth this one most of the week. Giving Dabo and the tiger this many points feels crazy. The man thats not making the bet may well be able to easily be able to look a back and criticize me and say “Of course you can’t give clemson that many points!” I say yes I can lay that many Kirby Smart is the future of the sport and Dabo is the past. Clemson was the only non Service Academy to not take a single transfer in the portal. Oh yeah the Service Academies can’t take transfer because you need a recommendation from a member of congress to get in. I would really like to see Etienne play for Georgia this week and I think he will play and play well. At the end of the day I took the bulldogs, because I have trouble seeing clemson being able to finish red zone drives and scoring touchdowns and not field goals.
Virginia Tech vs Vanderbilt (+14)
Everyone seems to be in love with this hokies team this offseason. I need to see it in order to believe myself. I also love vandy’s transfer QB Diego Pavia. This young man is a pure baller in every sense of the word. I mean Diego was accused of pissing on the new mexico logo while playing at rival new mexico state. That is the kind of fire I am looking for in my Quarterback that is a leader and you’re telling me I can catch two touchdowns at home? Give me the Commodores to cover at home.
Miami FL (-2.5) vs Florida
So much uncertainty and so many storylines to talk about with this one. At the end of the day I think this Miami team is more talented and I think they have a better QB on paper. Transfer QB’s don’t always come in and right away play great though. Cam Ward has a big test in the swamp this weekend, but it’s just fun to say the “U” is back and throw in up so I will take the canes to go to gainesville and come back to south beach with a win and cover for me.
Boise State vs Georgia Southern (+13)
Clay Helton has gotten a pretty decent G5 roster put together this year. The Boise State QB position battle has garnered a lot of attention this offseason and that uncertainty brings me some pause. Finally it will be 91 degrees in Statesboro on saturday I think Boise may have some issues with that and 13 points at home. I will take the eagles to keep this one within the number.
Notre Dame vs Texas A&M (-3)
I do not like Texas A&M. I do like Mike Elko their new coach. I think he is very talented and that makes me sad, because I think he could turn A&M into a much better team. Elko is a very good defensive coordinator and I think with his scheme and the plethora of talent leftover in college station by the 75 million dollar man Jimbo fisher the aggies could see a lot of improvement on the defensive side of the ball. College Station at night playing against a Notre Dame O-line with six combined starts? Yeah that is a no from me. Aggies win a slugfest.
Fresno State vs Michigan (-21)
Loyalty bet for the defending champs 15-0 can’t not cover on banner night. In all seriousness Fresno can’t block the wolverines and that makes it difficult to score points. Michigan still is not sure about their QB situation so I think they will continue to score points later than expected in order to get right with the longhorns coming to Ann Arbor next week.
Wyoming (+7) vs Arizona State
Tempe is still a wreck of a football program. Plus aren’t all their undergrads busy at the swimming pool this time of year? Give me the Cowboys to go win out in the desert at night.
LSU (-4) vs USC
I like both offenses a lot. I think LSU’s O-Line and their ability to move bodies will be the difference. I also think Brian Kelly is a better coach than Lincoln Riley if not by leaps and bounds at least by a little bit.
Totals YTD 0-0
Penn State vs West Virginia (Under 51.5)
I trust this Penn State defense. I think they can put West Virginia inside the vice grips. Morgantown is a tough place to play so I don’t want to lay it with the Nittnany lions. I think this being each teams first game we will see a lot of running the football get the clock moving and attempt to knock off the the rust of the offseason.
Miami (Fl) vs Florida (Under 54)
This game will be like a heavy weight fight where both fighters are throwing jabs early both slightly afraid of getting knocked out by the other. There is enormous pressure on both of these coaches to win this game and I think both will turtle and play an extremely conservative style of football. Gainesville Florida is very hot this time of year I could definitely see a lot of players with IV’s in the arm come halftime.
UTEP vs Nebraska (Over 49)
UTEP is gonna come into lincoln and attempt to throw the football around the yard. Now I have no idea to what degree they will succeed in doing so, but for an over to hit I always need the underdog to actually put up their best effort in scoring points and not grinding a game out. From the Corn Husker perspective you got a freshman QB kid that you are really high on. Let him go his feet wet show that improvement that most Matt Rhule teams show in year two.
Notre Dame vs Texas A&M (under 46)
Catholics vs Cultists this game will be an long ugly defensive struggle not unlike one that happened in Waco a few decades ago.
LSU vs USC (Over 64)
Two teams that scored a billon points and played defense like they were attempting to tackle ghosts last year. Points Points Points out in the desert on Sunday night.
Furman vs Ole Miss (Under 60.5)
Hey Lane Kiffin as a favor to me leave all those defensive studs you got in the portal in the game longer than the offensive ones as a favor to me. Thanks again – Reed Olson
